According to Ayatollah Sistani, zakat applies to wheat, barley, dates, raisins, gold, silver, camels, cows and sheep/goats; bank cash and ordinary jewellery are not subject to zakat (they may be subject to khums). Zakat on trade goods is by obligatory precaution and is not computed here. The silver nisab (483.84 g) is derived from 105 common mithqals at 4.608 g each. Crops and livestock are not covered. Please confirm with your marja'.
Pakistan's government deducts zakat (2.5%) from eligible savings accounts on the 1st of Ramadan above a notified nisab (about Rs 503,529 for Ramadan 2026, per press reports - secondary source). Account holders of the Ja'fari school can file a declaration with their bank to opt out of the deduction. Verify the current rules with the Zakat department / your bank.
